For a lot of business owners, you can get to a point where you sit down to make a post for social or your blog, and…nothing happens. Nothing comes to mind, and if you do have an idea, you realize you just posted the same thing last week. It feels like you’ve pretty much said everything you can!
We know from experience that it can be really hard to come up with marketing ideas when you feel like a lemon that’s fully squeezed out. But reaching this point is an opportunity to get creative (don’t roll your eyes, we’re going to show you what we mean below!).
Trust us when we say, you’re never fully tapped out—it’s just time to think more creatively about what your marketing can do and say!
In this episode, we’re sharing:
- Why most of us aren’t going deep enough with our marketing ideas
- How to repackage your content
- Ways to find new marketing ideas when you feel like you’ve said it all
- How Enji can help (check out our new idea generator!)
Go Deeper, Not Wider
First on the list of how to come up with marketing ideas? Go deeper. When we’re struggling to come up with marketing ideas, we usually try to think about new topics and concepts. But most of the time, it’s actually easier to go deeper within the topics and concepts you’ve already talked about within your marketing.
You might think you’ve already said everything you can, but chances are that there’s a subtopic you can dive into or updated information you can share. This way, you can break down past content into smaller, more detailed pieces for your marketing channels (without starting from scratch everytime).
Here’s an example. Let's say you’re a business coach and you have a blog post about starting a business, which you’ve already promoted on social media (hopefully many times!). One of the tips in your blog post is to choose a legal structure. Well, a ton of people in your target audience probably have a lot of questions about that. Even if you touched on that subtopic in your original post, there’s a lot more you can say: the differences between each, the benefits, how to establish each one, and examples of businesses under each type of structure.
All of these details can become a separate blog post along with multiple Instagram posts, and maybe even a TikTok video. From one older post, you now have a ton to add to your content calendar!
Repackage What’s Worked Before
Another thing that makes it harder to come up with content ideas is feeling like your marketing is too repetitive. Does it feel like you keep covering the same topics over and over again? Maybe you even reuse the same post multiple times?
While there’s nothing wrong with re-using something, it’s probably worth your time to freshen them up a bit. When you feel like you’ve said it all, take a look at what you’ve been posting. Which posts did the best? Instead of repeating yourself, you can repackage these posts across your marketing channels.
Here’s a few examples:
- A podcast episode becomes an Instagram carousel with topics and quotes
- A blog post becomes a short-form video for Instagram or TikTok
- A long email becomes a bite-sized LinkedIn post
Answer Your Audience’s Questions
Aside from repurposing and repackaging, you’re probably wondering how to come up with brand-new ideas for your content. The best place to look? Within your audience!
Look at your DMs, emails, or post comments to put together a list of the top questions and comments that your audience has. From there, you can keep it simple and create a FAQ post for your website or Instagram. Or, even better, create a unique piece of content to answer each question.
For example, let’s say you’re a brand designer. Your audience might wonder how to implement their brand across the different website platforms depending what they use: Squarespace, Wix, Showit, etc. That’s a great opportunity to create a unique Instagram post about how to add a brand kit in the most common platforms.
This type of content works well for both your existing clients and potential clients since you can show that you know your sh*t and build trust with them.
Tell More Stories
Next on the list of how to come up with marketing ideas when you feel like you’ve said it all? Tell more stories. The art of storytelling is alive and well, and it’s the core of a lot of great marketing! If you don’t know how to come up with marketing ideas, another great strategy is to get a little more personal.
People love authenticity and situations where businesses pull back the curtain. Even if you’re a one-person business, there’s a ton that you can offer.
Ask yourself:
- Can you turn your daily work into behind-the-scenes content?
- Can you show more of your team?
- Can you show more of your work process?
- Is there a funny story that you love to tell your family and friends?
- What stories have your past clients enjoyed?
The answers to these questions can all become some of your most engaging content. Don’t forget—even the stories that aren’t related to your business are still valuable. After all, showing more of yourself gives your brand more personality and makes it easier for potential customers to connect with you!
Use “Remix” Prompts
We’ve talked about repackaging your best content already, but now, let’s talk about giving it a remix. That means finding another angle or take on something you’ve talked about before (and can be a great way to come up with marketing ideas when you feel like you’ve said it all).
As an example, let’s say you’re a business coach and you have a blog post called “10 Tips for Hiring a Successful Team.” Using the same concept, you could “remix” your post into more content, like:
- What I Wish I Knew About Hiring and Managing Employees
- The Biggest Mistakes Business Owners Make When Building a Team
- A Step-by-Step Guide to Hiring Your First Employees
Because here’s the thing—nobody is memorizing your content. We don’t retain a lot of what we see in marketing (especially on social media). While someone might recognize something you’ve previously posted (if it’s exactlyyyy the same), we can pretty much guarantee nobody is going to recognize sharing older content packaged up with a new take!
Use AI to Spark Ideas
People have a ton of opinions about using AI, but we think we can all agree that it’s super helpful for getting past writer’s block. Tools like Enji’s AI copywriter can help you come up with a fresh take on an old post or flesh out a topic that you’re not so sure how to talk about.
Plus, brand new in 2025, we’ve come up with an AI idea generator for your social media content. We take what we know about your business and give you a bunch of ideas to shake up your content strategy (in minutes).
You can think of AI as a helpful assistant who can take your initial concepts and turn them into something new! Plus, Enji’s copywriter tool can also write in your brand voice and tone, making it even easier to come up with ideas and actually get them posted.
Reintroduce Your Brand and Offerings
When it comes to how to come up with marketing ideas when you feel like you’ve said it all, one obvious ideas that too many small businesses aren’t doing (we see you!) is reintroducing your brand and offerings. No, it isn’t too salesly or annoying, it’s actually helpful for your audience (and selling your sh*t is the whole point).
New people are always finding you, so it should be easy for them to learn more about your business and services. As you come up with marketing ideas each month or quarter, make sure you have room to introduce yourself, re-share your origin story, or brand values, or publish a simple “What We Do” post.
