How to Design an AI Marketing Strategy for your Small Business

If the thought of using AI in your marketing strategy makes you feel like you're about to embark on a mission to Mars, you're not alone. The good news? It's not as hard-to-figure-out as it seems. And the truth is, as a marketing software with AI tools, we know that AI can be a game-changer for small businesses, without being overly complicated. That’s what we’re going to talk about today!

In this article, we’re sharing:

  • The benefits of using AI for small businesses
  • Why you shouldn’t use AI to create your marketing strategy
  • Best practices for using AI for your content
  • Examples of using AI in marketing
  • How to use Enji’s AI to create your marketing strategy

Take a Look at Your Current Marketing Strategy: Where Are the Gaps and Pain Points?

Before we start adding AI into the mix, let’s take a good, hard look at your current marketing strategy. Ask yourself:

  • Where are the gaps?
  • What are your biggest pain points?
  • Are there repetitive tasks that eat up your time?
  • Do you struggle with personalizing your marketing efforts?

Pinpointing these areas will show you exactly where AI can work its magic and make a real difference in your small business bottom line.

Can’t I Just Ask Chat GPT to Create Me A Marketing Strategy?

Listen, as you keep reading, you’re going to see that we are very pro-AI around here. But no, you can’t just use Chat GPT to write you a marketing strategy. For three very big reasons:

  1. It’s just guessing: ChatGPT uses a ton of data (and a lot of math), but it wasn’t created with real and specific intelligence in mind. The model is literally just guessing the next word that “makes the most sense” to answer your prompt as it writes. So this is a good time to remind you that your marketing strategy is part of your big overarching plan to make money in your business. And that’s not exactly something you should be guessing.
  2. It lacks nuance: If there’s one thing we’ve learned after working with small businesses in their marketing for many, many years, it’s that everything about running a small business is nuanced. Especially a marketing strategy. There are way too many options and things at play for ChatGPT to possibly produce a plan that understands your business and your life.
  3. You’re not going to prompt it right: Sorry, but brutally honest is kind of what you get around here. You aren’t going to give ChatGPT enough information to get it right. If you could, you’d be able to create a marketing strategy yourself (and wouldn’t be asking ChatGPT in the first place).

On top of all that, it also leaves you hanging once it’s done creating your “strategy”. Unlike Enji AI, where we give you a marketing plan and then all the tasks and tools you need to get it done (keep reading for more on that!).

Should You Be Using AI as a Small Business?

AI isn’t just for tech giants anymore. Small businesses can reap the rewards of this newly accessible tech too. Here’s a few reasons why we think more small business owners should get on board.

1. AI Saves You Time

We’re all wearing a million hats nowadays, right? And at Enji, we know that there’s no prize at the end of the tunnel for doing it all yourself. At minimum, AI can help you automate repetitive tasks like writing social media captions, sending out emails, and even handling customer inquiries. With AI taking care of the first draft, you can spend more time on the business and less time whipping up a content plan.

2. AI Helps Personalize Your Communication

Beyond just writing, AI can also help you analyze customer data and see blind spots that you might be missing. We are all a little too close to our businesses for an unbiased view, right? Try throwing in reviews or customer support inquiries into ChatGPT and asking it to give you a list of common themes. Then, you can use that info to help you improve your product/service and also personalize your customer interactions even more.

3. Helps You Understand the Data

AI can process and analyze a huge amount of data quickly. If you’re tracking your KPIs, you can put that data into an AI tool (just nothing too confidential, please!), and ask it questions like: what products should I be reordering? What are some ways I can increase my customer lifetime value? How can I advertise [insert fabulous product here] to bring in more sales? Should I hire more staff now or wait until the fall?

Best Practices for Using AI in Your Content

While we are big fans of any kind of tech that can make a small business owner’s life easier, we also know that it can feel hard to get started. Here are some of the best practices for using AI in your content to get you started.

1. Don’t Copy and Paste

As software with an AI copywriter, we like to think we’ve done everything we can to give you a pretty great first draft. But you still need to make sure that the content aligns with your brand’s voice and message. A little human touch goes a long way in making your content more relatable (which in turn, helps your readers connect with you—which is the whole point).

2. Have a Brand Voice

Your brand voice is what sets you apart from the competition. AI can help generate content, but maintaining a consistent brand voice is what’s going to make that content convert for you. Watch the video below for exactly how to create a brand voice in Enji.

3. Avoid Tab-Switching

Remember how we said AI could save you time? That’s only if your AI tool is not one of the 20 different tabs you have open right now. Multi-tasking is not it. That’s exactly why we created our AI copywriter to live inside Enji (where you’re creating and scheduling your content already).

Example of Using AI in Marketing

In case you’re still unsure, here’s a quick step-by-step for writing a blog post using Enji’s AI:

Step-by-Step Guide Using Enji Copywriter

  1. Choose a Topic
What do you want to write about? Our AI gives you space to add additional details and choose the keywords that are important to you (because you don’t want AI to mess with how well you rank on Google). When it comes to choosing topics, think about what your audience wants to read and what aligns with your business goals.
  2. Watch It Start Writing
Once you have a topic chosen, Enji’s AI Copywriter will start writing. We’ve used our tech smarts to pull in your brand voice guide as well, so even if it’s a first draft, it’ll sound pretty close to you.
  3. Edit and Refine
While we always hope to give you something pretty close to publish-ready, after you have your draft, it’s time to review, edit for clarity, add in some personal touches, and then transfer it over to your website!

Did we mention that Enji can have a first draft to you in a matter of seconds? Really. It’s wildly fast!
